The Garden

The King and Queen sits at the heart of Wendover village life, where locals gather for proper cask ales and genuine warmth in equal measure. Behind the pub, a superb beer garden offers a tranquil retreat under a graceful weeping willow — the sort of place where an afternoon drifts pleasantly into evening, a pint in hand and the Buckinghamshire countryside breathing quietly around you. Inside, the pub wears its authentic countryside character unselfconsciously: old beams, a welcoming fireplace, and the kind of honest hospitality you can’t manufacture. Occasional food vans pitch up in the car park, adding to the village-pub spirit of doing things properly rather than pretentiously, whilst the selection of cask ales — Timothy Taylor features prominently — keeps things straightforward and satisfying.
