The Garden

Tucked on the edge of Princes Risborough where the town begins to give way to the Chiltern countryside, the Bird in Hand feels like the kind of place where locals have been settling in for generations—quirky, unhurried, and genuinely welcoming whether you’re catching a connecting train or making a proper evening of it. The pub itself, full of historic character and curious artefacts, has the comfortable worn-in feel of somewhere that doesn’t need to try too hard; a real fireplace and an excellent selection of Chiltern ales set the tone for something refreshingly unpretentious. There’s room to bring the family and the dogs, and the kind of straightforward hospitality—from friendly staff to properly made pork scratchings—that suggests the Bird in Hand knows exactly what a proper country local should be.
