The Garden

The George and Dragon sits as a proper coaching inn should—rooted in its surroundings with the character that only centuries of service can bestow—and whilst garden details are modest, the pub’s generous spirit more than compensates. Inside and out, this is a place where dogs are welcomed into the dining room, where staff move unhurried through creaking corridors of uneven floors and sloping beams, and where a pint finds its natural home beside conversation. The countryside hereabouts settles around you easily, and the pub itself—with its collection of good ales and kitchen that takes pride in proper cooking (those triple-cooked chips speak for themselves)—feels less like a destination and more like the sort of local that rewards the effort of seeking it out. Come for the history layered into every wonky corner, stay for the kind of hospitality that makes newcomers and regulars feel equally at home.
