The Garden

The Red Lion’s gardens are genuinely memorable—a sprawling, water-centred space that feels more like a private retreat than a standard beer garden, complete with a substantial pond crossed by a little bridge where koi glide beneath the surface. Dotted throughout are old farming machinery and classic motorbikes that speak to the pub’s deeply rooted countryside character, whilst mature trees and parasols offer proper shade on warmer days. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose an afternoon, whether you’re nursing a local ale by the water’s edge or settling in for lunch after a walk through the surrounding hills. The whole setting—garden and pub alike—breathes genuine history and personality, with none of the forced quaintness you find elsewhere; it simply feels like a proper village local that has earned its place in the landscape over centuries.
