The Garden

The Red Lion’s garden is genuinely expansive, centred around a handsome pond complete with a little arched bridge and koi carp—a feature that lends the place an almost storybook quality, particularly on warm days when the water seems to cool the air itself. Scattered throughout are charming vintage touches: old farm machinery and classic motorbikes tucked amongst the greenery, which speak to a real sense of place rather than contrived decoration. Shaded by parasols and mature trees, it’s the sort of space where you can settle with a proper pint and lose an hour without noticing, especially if you catch the pub during one of those golden afternoon stretches. Inside, low beamed ceilings and period features echo the 1600s heritage of the original building, creating a cohesive sense of history that flows naturally between garden and bar—a countryside local where character feels earned rather than imported.
